This is an ancient melody I have reanimated through woodwinds and electronics. The old Norwegian tale of Heiemo and Nykkjen maintains strong pagan elements despite some influences of christianity (thought to have been added later to the ancient tale). This song has been lilting through my mind since I first heard it sung by Kirsten Bråten Berg. Nykkjen, the dark water spirit, hears Heiemo singing and becomes enamoured with her, and attempts to capture her and drag her down to his watery lair. The lyrics in my version roughly translate to “Nykkjen danced and Heiemo sang... ‘Heiemo calm your wrath’ ... she stabbed Nykkjen in the chest, and ran the blade through his heart-root.” For my ancestors - takk.
