This piece is dedicated to all the women and genderfluid folks that defied “traditional” gender roles to take up arms in battle - the scandinavian shield maidens, the Dahomey warriors, Tomoe Gozen, and countless others throughout history and spanning the globe. This song features an experimental contact microphone setup, in which I’m wearing a collar that presses small microphones against my neck to capture the melodies I hum while simultaneously playing the saxophone. There are also contact microphones attached to specific keys of my sax to amplify the percussiveness of the instrument.
